2026 Slovak comedy film premieres and box office

Late July‑August 2026 continued a lively stretch for Slovak comedy cinema. After Lukáš Zedniković’s sequel Kavej 2 debuted on 23 July, the adult‑oriented comedy Kuko, Drobček & Raťafák opened nationwide on 6 August. Directed by Andrej Kolenčík and Jura Šlauku, the film reunites three former TV personalities in a stylised night‑life adventure that mixes live‑action, puppetry and synth‑wave‑infused music by David Kollar. A Bratislava premiere at DK Zrkadlový háj featured a Q&A with the creators and cameo appearances by well‑known Slovak TV figures. The following week, Hana Hendrychová’s Bardotky premiered on 20 August, offering a light‑hearted portrait of three women—Meda, Iva and Valerie—exploring friendship, ageing and personal freedom. The film marks Pavlína Pořízková’s first Czech‑language cinematic role; at the Bratislava press event she praised the script and reflected on life after fifty, underscoring the story’s focus on humor and honesty about women’s experiences. Box‑office data released on 1 August showed Kavej 2 drew 44,826 viewers its opening weekend and a cumulative 74,381 in its first week, making it the most successful Slovak release of the summer. The comedy out‑performed several imported titles such as Odysea, Michael and the animated Minions & Monsters, and even surpassed the historic drama Štúr. A travelling Kavej 2 Fest took the film to open‑air venues in Košice, Zemplínska Šírava and Prešov, attracting the largest crowds at each location. By early August the title was playing in over 90 cinemas and is expected to reach 131 screens by season’s end. Together with the announced cross‑border co‑production Šípkari, these releases illustrate a vibrant period of diverse storytelling, cross‑border collaboration and strong audience appetite within Slovak comedy cinema.
