The XIII South American Games in Santa Fe, Rosario, and Rafaela have concluded, with Brazil securing the top position in the final medal standings. Brazil finished with 312 total medals (122 gold, 107 silver, and 83 bronze), marking its fourth time leading the competition. Host nation Argentina placed second with 293 medals (81 gold, 87 silver, and 125 bronze). A major highlight for the host was the Argentina national handball team, known as ‘Los Gladiadores’, which secured the gold medal with an undefeated record. Notable Argentine successes included swimmer Macarena Ceballos, who secured five medals, and the men’s 4x400m relay team, which earned silver. Following the games, the Santa Fe Provincial Government provided financial recognition to 74 athletes in a ceremony led by Governor Maximiliano Pullaro. A total of 326 million pesos was allocated to support the delegation, with gold medalists receiving 8 million pesos, silver medalists 6 million, and bronze medalists 4 million. The Santa Fe delegation contributed 80 of Argentina’s total medals, including 11 gold, 37 silver, and 32 bronze. Colombia achieved third place, followed by Chile in fourth. Chile recorded a historic performance, securing 49 gold medals and 175 total medals. Miguel Ángel Mujica, president of the Chilean Olympic Committee, stated this was the nation’s best performance outside its home country, bringing Chile within one gold and one total medal of its record set at the Santiago 1986 Games. Mujica attributed the success to years of collaboration between the public and private sectors. Venezuela placed fifth with 146 medals, including 48 gold. Other milestones included Uruguay’s best-ever performance with 54 medals and Panama’s 10th-place finish. The games featured over 4,000 athletes from 15 nations. Odesur President Mario Moccia described the event as “the most attended in history,” noting significant economic impacts across the host provinces.
