The 2026 US Open in New York is marked by record-breaking financial figures and a significant shift toward luxury experiences. The tournament features a $108 million prize pool, the first Grand Slam to exceed $100 million, representing a 20% increase from the previous year. This total reflects a 44% increase over a two-year period. Singles champions are set to receive $5.5 million each, the largest single-tournament winner’s check in tennis history, while first-round losers will earn $140,000. These financial adjustments align with equity standards, ensuring identical payouts for men’s and women’s singles across all rounds. Additionally, the prize money includes a $2 million contribution to a welfare fund following player demands for greater support through a Grand Slam player council. This economic trend is mirrored in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, which has launched the first phase of an $800 million renovation project. The upgrades include expanding court-side seating to approximately 5,000 seats and increasing premium suites, though the project involves removing roughly 3,000 ‘cheap seats’ from upper levels. Consequently, resale ticket prices for the opening round have increased by 60% compared to last year. In women’s tennis, the partnership of Luisa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski has seen continued success. Following her semifinal appearance at the US Open, Brazilian player Luisa Stefani reached the third position in the WTA doubles rankings, becoming the first Brazilian to hold a top-three spot in the official rankings since 1974. At the SP Open WTA 250 in São Paulo, the singles final is set between Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska and Spain’s Kaitlin Quevedo. ~~Podoroska~~ Podoroska, returning from a 14-month shoulder injury hiatus, secured her place by defeating Paula Badosa 6-3, 6-4, marking her first WTA 250 final.
