The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launched on 29 September 2026, providing a technical and gameplay overhaul for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The update, a free upgrade for existing owners, includes the ‘Hearts of Stone’ and ‘Blood and Wine’ expansions. Key improvements feature enhanced textures, vegetation, and path tracing on PC, alongside a redesigned skill tree and cross-platform mod support. Following the launch, the title saw a massive surge in popularity, with Steam concurrent players reaching a peak of 137,724 by October 5. While critics and players praised the visual presentation, the release faced technical criticism regarding a “lifeless” or “washed out” lighting system and performance stutters on PlayStation 5. In response, CD Projekt Red released Hotfix 5.00c and the major version 5.01 update to address gameplay, UI, and performance issues. To address visual criticisms regarding an intense bloom effect, a hotfix was released on October 1 targeting bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation, and path-tracing in the Velen region. On October 13, the developer released hotfix 5.01b (version 5.000.500) specifically for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro users to improve stability. While some players reported that this patch addressed lighting inconsistencies on the base PS5, other technical issues persist, including frame rate drops, flickering shadows, texture glitches, and unresolved crashing. Newer technical challenges have emerged on PC, where the resource-intensive implementation of path tracing has caused frame rate drops in dense environments like Novigrad or Velen. Users with AMD Radeon GPUs have also reported specific issues, including black textures and visual artifacts. Additionally, some players have expressed frustration regarding the game's difficulty, specifically regarding challenging bosses and enemies. On the Nintendo Switch 2, the remaster has launched successfully, though players have been advised to utilize defensive combat mechanics to manage difficulty.
