The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, held at the London Palladium, recognized Alexia Putellas as the winner of the Ballon d'Or Féminin. This victory marks her third career award, equalling the record held by Aitana Bonmatí and continuing a six-year streak of Spanish players winning the trophy. Putellas achieved this milestone following a season where she captained FC Barcelona to a quadruple, including Liga F, Copa de la Reina, Supercopa de España, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League. During the assessment period, she recorded 26 goals and 15 assists across club and international competitions, including a victory in the UEFA Women’s Nations League with Spain. She also secured the UEFA Women’s Champions League Player of the Season honors. Her triumph follows a significant comeback from a career-threatening ACL injury sustained in 2022. Following her success with Barcelona, Putellas recently transferred to the London City Lionesses in the English Women’s Super League. In her acceptance speech, Putellas encouraged young athletes to pursue their dreams regardless of gender or background, urging them to “believe in themselves.” The award also highlighted several other players and staff: Ewa Pajor finished second, Khadija Shaw finished third, Melchie Dumornay placed fourth, and Vicky López was named best young player. Cata Coll received the award for best goalkeeper, and manager Pere Romeu was named best women’s coach. Additionally, FC Barcelona was honored as Women’s Club of the Year. The ceremony also saw Harry Kane receive the men's Ballon d'Or.
