The 2026 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships are scheduled to be held in Ningbo, China, from October 27 to November 8. The event serves as a critical qualification stage for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, where top-eight finishes are of significant importance. Ahead of the competition, Lawrence Iquaibom, a weightlifting official from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, was appointed as an International Technical Official (ITO). Iquaibom is the sole Nigerian official selected for the global competition. Athletic participation includes various international competitors, such as Bulgaria’s competitors. Bulgaria is represented by five male athletes, including Olympic champion Carlos Nasar, who seeks his fourth world title in the 95 kg category. Other Bulgarian competitors include Angel Rusev, Deniz Danev, Ivan Dimov, and Hristo Hristov. However, Bulgarian female athlete Boyana Kostadinova is unable to compete due to injury. Brazil is also participating with a five-member delegation consisting of Emily Rosa, Nathasha Rosa, Laura Amaro, Taiane Justino, and Thiago Félix, following a recent training camp in Turkey. Other notable matchups include a contest in the 85 kg category between Colombia’s Jason Lopez and Egypt’s Abdo Younes.
