In early July 2026 the Federal District’s fire‑fighter corps marked its 170th anniversary, underscoring the long‑standing role of emergency services in the capital region. Later that month the district’s health secretariat launched a recruitment drive for 320 temporary physicians across several specialties. The positions include 70 in family and community medicine, 200 in general practice, 40 in gynecology and obstetrics, and 10 in oncology, each on a one‑year contract without renewal. Salaries range from R$ 10,681.63 to R$ 21,363.26 depending on specialty and workload. Applications close on 29 July, with preliminary results due 18 August and final convocations slated for 11 September. Concurrently, the secretariat disclosed plans to integrate the Samu pre‑hospital medical system with the fire department through a joint operations centre, shared medical regulation, common protocols and new technology, aiming to streamline emergency response and reduce duplication across public services.
