Joshua Báez, a 23-year-old outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, made Major League Baseball history during his debut against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Báez became the first player to hit a home run in each of his first three career plate appearances. During the game, Báez hit a 449-foot, two-run home run on the first pitch he saw from Cubs starter Matthew Boyd. He followed this with a solo home run in the fourth inning and a two-run shot in the sixth, finishing the game 3-for-4 with five RBIs. The Cardinals won the game 8-4. It was revealed that Báez achieved this feat while wearing borrowed spikes from teammate Blaze Jordan, having arrived at the stadium without the necessary equipment. Following the historic performance, the National Baseball Hall of Fame has expressed interest in acquiring the equipment used during the debut, including the borrowed spikes, for potential display in Cooperstown. A second-round draft pick from 2021, Báez was called up from Triple-A Memphis, where he had recorded 34 home runs in 410 at-bats this season. The Dominican-raised outfielder stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds. Following his historic debut, Báez has entered a period of adjustment.
