The political party Levica has issued several criticisms regarding the North Macedonian government’s management of social and economic issues. Initially, the party criticized the lack of mandatory heat protection for workers, arguing that the government’s Heatwave Action Plan 2025–2030 relies on recommendations rather than binding regulations. Levica has also accused Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski of misrepresenting the country’s economic health, noting that GDP per capita and real individual consumption remain significantly below EU averages. Levica has expanded its critique to include the country’s demographic crisis. Party representative Jovana Mojsovska highlighted systemic failures such as months-long delays in maternity benefits, difficulties securing kindergarten placements, and instances of pregnant workers losing their jobs. The party also criticized Education Minister Vesna Janevska for suggesting that first-grade students should ask for ‘little brothers or sisters’ to address population decline. Levica argues that the demographic crisis is driven by mass emigration caused by low wages, corruption, and a job market dependent on political connections rather than merit. They noted that approximately 3,000 fewer first-graders enrolled this year compared to the previous year. Furthermore, the party continues to challenge the ruling DPMNE and SDSM parties over housing policies. Levica contends that current policies force young people into a cycle of permanent renting or lifelong bank debt, noting that housing lending increased by 16.6% annually in June. They assert that uncontrolled urban sprawl and rising real estate prices are primary drivers for youth emigration. More recently, Levica has criticized the SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE parties for maintaining a political duopoly. Following their participation in the public forum ‘What after 35 years?’, Levica leaders accused Hristijan Mickoski and Zoran Filipce of attempting to frame the party as a satellite or part of their respective political orbits.
