The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) has conducted several enforcement actions across different Mexican states to address environmental violations. In Puebla, authorities temporarily closed four wastewater discharge points in Coronango, San Martín Texmelucan, and San Miguel Xoxtla. These sites were operating without concessions from the National Water Commission (Conagua) or proper treatment accreditation, discharging into tributaries of the Atoyac River. The responsible parties failed to meet water quality standards and lacked required documentation regarding contaminants. In Hidalgo and Zacatecas, Profepa targeted unauthorized land developments. In Hidalgo, the ‘Wander Cabins’ tourist development in El Chico National Park was closed for lacking environmental impact assessments and land-use permits. The site, occupying approximately 1,755.6 square meters of oak forest, included 14 wooden cabins, a parking lot, a cinema, and a jacuzzi. In Zacatecas, a rural housing development in Guadalupe La Nigua was shut down following the clearing of approximately 1.81 hectares of forest vegetation, including native species such as mesquite mesquite, huizache, and cacti, without required authorizations from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat). In Veracruz, Profepa issued a total temporary closure of the Club Hípico Consolapa property in the Chopantla locality of Coatepec. Following a public complaint, inspectors confirmed the unauthorized felling and exploitation of trees covering approximately 752 square meters. The damage is estimated at 7,323 cubic meters of jonote wood (Heliocarpus appendiculatus). The affected area is part of a fragile cloud forest ecosystem within the Cofre de Perote region.
