The Secretary of Education and Culture of João Pessoa (Sedec-JP) has initiated a selection process to establish a reserve list of volunteer literacy instructors for the Municipal Education Network. Eligible applicants must be Brazilian citizens, aged 18 or older, and either currently enrolled in at least the 5th semester or a graduate in Pedagogy or Letters (Portuguese or Mathematics). The program provides a monthly stipend to cover food and transportation costs, ranging from R$ 918.39 for a 20-hour weekly workload to R$ 1,836 for 40 hours. The selection process involves registration validation, an in-person interview with written questions, and curriculum analysis, with an initial service term of 12 months. Expanding on municipal educational initiatives, approximately 550 students from the João Pessoa Municipal Education Network are participating in the state stage of the 2026 Brazilian Robotics Olympiad. The event features 140 municipal teams, representing more than 25% of the total competition participants. Students are competing in rescue and artistic robotics categories. This participation follows municipal investments in Maker Spaces, Google Classrooms, and LEGO® Education technology, resulting in 100% of schools in the municipal network integrating robotics into their curriculum. Elisson Abreu Dutra, the municipality's Director of Educational Informatics, noted that this innovation ecosystem has led to national recognition and the release of 16 Junior Scientific Initiation scholarships by CNPq in 2026. The city is also scheduled to host the National Robotics Stage later this year.
