Colombian military operations against FARC dissidents
Overview
The Colombian military has conducted several operations targeting FARC dissident structures in the Nariño and Cauca departments.
In Nariño, an offensive in El Peñol resulted in the deaths of seven members of the Estado Mayor Central (EMC) Franco Benavides front. The operation led to five captures, twelve injuries, and the seizure of various firearms, explosives, and narcotics. Authorities also dismantled five cocaine processing laboratories and several illegal mining units. President Abelardo De La Espriella described these actions as part of an “aggressive security policy.”
In Cauca, military actions disrupted the ‘Los Piratas’ group, which was linked to the Jaime Martínez structure and involved in highway extortion. Additionally, 41 members of the Carlos Patiño structure, associated with alias Iván Mordisco, surrendered to the military in the Micay Canyon. These operations included the recovery of minors and the seizure of weaponry, aimed at reducing the territorial control and criminal influence of these armed groups.
