Agricultural harvesting activities are progressing across various regions of Turkey, including Kahramanmaraş and Kütahya. In late August, aronia harvesting commenced in the Andırın district of Kahramanmaraş and the Hisarcık district of Kütahya. In Kütahya, producers are utilizing organic farming methods to cater to health-conscious consumers, with some farmers reporting significant increases in annual yields. Local officials noted that these high-value crops contribute to agricultural diversity and economic development. By late September, harvesting in Kahramanmaraş expanded to include cucumbers, hawthorn, and grapes. In the Dulkadiroğlu district, greenhouse cucumber production is underway for sale to merchants. Additionally, the region is seeing the ripening of hawthorn for fresh consumption or processing, alongside the sorting of various grape varieties for fresh use or winter storage. In October, following a productive and rainy year, residents in Kahramanmaraş have utilized a period of unseasonably warm weather, known locally as ‘bastırma yazı’, to finalize winter food preparations. Current agricultural efforts have shifted toward harvesting olives and grapes. The grape harvest includes pressing fruit to produce traditional items such as molasses, walnut-filled sausages (cevizli sucuk), samsa, and bastık, as producers aim to complete these tasks before anticipated temperature drops and increased rainfall.
