Sadio Mané agro-industrial project in Senegal

Overview

Senegalese footballer Sadio Mané has launched SM10 Agro, a self-funded agro-industrial project in his hometown of Bambali, located in the Sédhiou region. The venture, valued at approximately US$20 million to US$20.4 million, aims to address significant post-harvest losses in the Casamance region, where an estimated 30% to 45% of fruit is lost due to inadequate infrastructure.

The project will span roughly 500 hectares and includes the planting of approximately 78,000 mango trees. The facility is designed to process surplus fruit and produce that does not meet European Union export standards into value-added goods, such as mango pulp, purée, dried fruit, and mango butter. The initiative also includes a center for preparing fresh mangoes for export, a training center, and research operations.

Construction is expected to take 18 months, with the first harvest anticipated in about three years. The project is projected to create more than 1,000 direct jobs. The launch involved National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, and Mané has presented his vision to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
