San Lorenzo de Almagro is facing continues to face severe financial and legal challenges. The club’s bank accounts were subject to a judicial embargo following a legal claim by former coach Damián Ayude, who is seeking unpaid debts totaling over $415 million in capital plus interest, alongside a separate smaller claim. This follows the coach’s dismissal in March 2026 and occurs while the club manages other disputes, such as a multi-million dollar disagreement with former player Ignacio Piatti. In addition to these private legal claims, the club’s headquarters in Buenos Aires were raided by authorities as part of the ‘Sur Finanzas’ investigation. This probe examines financial activities during Marcelo Moretti’s administration, specifically the practice of advancing funds to settle debts with the expectation of future repayment. These legal developments coincide with a reported institutional debt of approximately 67.8 million USD. The ‘Sur Finanzas’ investigation has expanded to include Ariel Vallejo, a financier linked to Argentine Football Association (AFA) president Claudio Tapia. Federal Judge Juan Rodríguez Ponte has ordered Vallejo to surrender 24 vehicles, including high-end models such as a Ferrari California, Alfa Romeo, and various BMW and Audi vehicles. Vallejo is currently under investigation for alleged money laundering and criminal association, with the seized assets to be placed under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.
