Poland is advancing several major railway infrastructure and connectivity initiatives. The Central Communication Port (CPK) project has moved forward with the shortlisting of five companies or consortia for consortia—including Strabag-Tym-Bud, Torpol-Mirbud-Kobylarnia, Budimex-Porr-Trakcja, and Intercor-NDI-NDI Sopot—for a 14.3-kilometer segment of the Warsaw-Łódź high-speed rail line, line. This segment, located between the Airport Junction and Bolimów Junction, is designed for speeds up to 350 km/h, with a contract expected by the fourth quarter of 2027. Strategic planning by the Ministry of Infrastructure targets long-term connectivity for 2031 and 2034, specifically aiming to link major cities like Warsaw, Wrocław, and Kraków to the Bieszczady Mountains, Lublin, and the Baltic coast. Under the Integrated Railway Network (ZSK) plan, travel times between Rzeszów and Warsaw are projected to decrease to two hours. Regional efforts include restoring rail services to Jastrzębie-Zdrój, which has lacked access since 2001; PKP PLK has launched a 270 million PLN tender to rebuild connections to the Silesian agglomeration, with completion targeted for 2030. Physical upgrades are also underway, including the renovation of a railway tunnel in Unisław Śląski to accommodate higher speeds and electrification. In Warsaw, a nearly 3 billion PLN investment will modernize the Warsaw East Station and construct a tunnel to connect the Praga-North and Praga-South districts. Additionally, PKP has initiated a tender to renovate the historic Braniewo station. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak recently noted a resurgence in rail travel, with passenger numbers reaching their highest levels in 30 years. To support this growth, this, PKP PLK has announced a major investment program aiming aims to invest over 180 billion PLN in railway infrastructure by 2032. This includes the modernization of the 70-kilometer railway line No. 108 connecting Jasło to Nowy Zagórz. Valued at over 1.2 billion PLN, this project involves upgrading tracks, traction networks, and engineering structures. A key component in Krosno includes the construction of two tunnels to replace three level crossings with grade-separated solutions. The Jasło–Krosno section is expected to be available by 2026, with full completion slated for December 2027. Once finished, passenger trains can reach speeds of 120 km/h, reducing travel time from Rzeszów to Nowy Zagórz by approximately 25 minutes. Regarding operational changes, a major timetable update effective December 13, 2026, will implement several regional improvements. PKP Intercity is implementing a ‘Horizontal Timetable (HRJ)’ concept to create a more stable and predictable network. Additionally, PKP Intercity has begun testing Eutelsat OneWeb satellite connectivity for stable internet on trains, with a pilot program on Pendolino ED250 trains scheduled for October 2026.
