Mojang has announced the release of Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders now open. The launch includes a physical version arriving October 27, 2026, and digital versions arriving October 28, 2026. Digital offerings consist of Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions, all of which include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Pack, featuring 15 Mario-themed music tracks and 40 character skins. Technical improvements for the new hardware include the ‘Vibrant Visuals’ upgrade, which enhances lighting, shadows, water, and environmental atmosphere, as well as support for mods. While the game is playable on the new hardware via backward compatibility, the current version does not utilize the console's enhanced technical capabilities. Existing digital owners of the original Nintendo Switch version are eligible for a free upgrade to the Standard Edition on Switch 2 via the Nintendo eShop until the end of January 2027. However, users in Japan and Taiwan may be subject to small fees of 100 JPY and 30 NTD, respectively. Players can also transfer existing worlds and save data to the new console. The standard digital package is priced at 29.99 Euro, while pre-orders are noted at R$ 99,00. In addition to the hardware transition, Mojang revealed a winter-themed game update. This update introduces ice caves, new crystal resources, a new hostile mob called the ‘Frostbite’, interface redesigns, and expanded tools for social interaction and server operation. Future content roadmaps reportedly include ‘The Sift’—the first new dimension in 14 years—planned for 2027.
