The 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are underway at the Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands, running from October 17 to 25. The event serves as a critical stage for international teams to gain competitive experience and ranking opportunities as they begin the qualification cycle for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The championships feature over 400 gymnasts from 84 nations, with the top three nations in each team event securing spots for the 2028 Olympics. In the women’s team final, China claimed the gold medal with 165.764 points, ending a 20-year drought and breaking the dominance of the United States, who took silver (165.531). Japan earned bronze (164.063), marking its first world podium appearance in 60 years. France finished fourth. The Brazilian women’s team, led by Rebeca Andrade and Flávia Saraiva, finished in fifth place with a total score of 159.730. Because they did not reach the podium, the Brazilian team missed out on direct qualification for the 2028 Olympics and must now seek a spot at the 2027 World Championships. In the individual all-around final, Skye Blakely of the United States won the gold medal, followed by Liudmila Roshchina of Russia in second and Ke Qinqin of China in third. In the team final, Flávia Saraiva placed 12th and Lorrane Oliveira placed 21st in the individual all-around. In the vault final, Rebeca Andrade secured the gold medal with an average score of 14.466. This victory makes her a three-time world champion in the event, joining Cheng Fei as only the second gymnast in history to achieve this feat, and marks her tenth career medal at World Championships. The podium was completed by Claire Pease of the United States in silver (14.233) and Skye Blakely in bronze (14.166).
