MH370 disappearance investigation

Overview

Investigations into the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 have uncovered new technical details regarding the aircraft’s final movements and onboard equipment.

Reports indicate that a mobile phone signal belonging to First Officer Fariq Abdul Hamid was detected by a base station in Bandar Baru Farlim near Penang at 1:52:27 AM local time on March 8, 2014. This signal occurred while the Boeing 777 was performing a sudden turn back over the Malaysian Peninsula. While the signal confirms the device was powered on, investigators found no evidence of active communication.

Additionally, inquiries have highlighted anomalies regarding the aircraft’s four Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT). Despite all units having batteries that were within their valid service life at the time of the incident, no emergency signals were recorded by search and rescue agencies. The failure of these functional devices has led investigators to review data from hundreds of other aviation accidents.
