Campo Grande has demonstrated significant economic growth and administrative efficiency throughout 2026. In the second quarter of 2026, the city reported a decline in unemployment from 4.3% to 3.1% over the preceding year, alongside a reduction in labor underutilization. Job creation was primarily driven by the service and construction sectors, while the commerce sector saw a decrease in positions. By September 2026, data from the Economic Bulletin—compiled by Semades using information from DataSebrae and the Federal Revenue—indicated that small businesses accounted for 94.41% of the city’s 148,531 active companies. This business base represents a 44.02% increase since March 2020. The breakdown of these entities includes 78,372 individual micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs), 48,132 micro-enterprises (MEs), and 13,718 small businesses (EPPs). The service sector remains the dominant economic driver, representing 58.68% of all local companies, followed by commerce at 24.76%. Other contributing sectors include construction, industry, and agriculture. Additionally, Campo Grande holds 41.29% of all active businesses in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Tourism indicators also showed upward trends during the third quarter of 2026. Hotel occupancy in the capital rose consecutively from 55.53% in July to 59% in September. According to Semades, this growth was driven by major events such as Marcha para Jesus, Imersão Sem Limites – Método EVO, and the Maximize Summit. Municipal secretary Ademar Silva Junior noted that monitoring these indicators is essential for planning actions to strengthen tourism and encourage longer stays to stimulate the local economy.
