Religious activities and displays honoring the legacy of Pope John Paul II have been observed in Bucharest Bucharest, Rome, and Rome. Croatia. In Bucharest, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese organized a traditional procession through the capital to honor a relic of the late Pope. The event included high-ranking clergy, such as Metropolitan Archbishop Aurel Percă and Apostolic Nuncio Giampiero Gloder, and centered on a piece of cloth containing blood drops donated to Saint Joseph Cathedral in 2011. The procession commemorated the Pope’s 1999 visit to Romania and his opposition to communist regimes. In Rome, a significant painting associated with the Pope was moved to the chapel at the Polish House of John Paul II. The artwork, brought to Rome by Polish parishioners in 1981, serves as a symbol of the Pope’s devotion to Mary and remains a point of emotional significance for pilgrims regarding his role in the struggle for freedom in Poland. In Croatia, religious observances are being held to honor the memory of the Pope on the anniversary of his pontificate. In Dubrovnik, the Diocese of Dubrovnik is hosting solemn masses at the Cathedral of the Assumption and in the parish of Saint Cross in Gruž, followed by the veneration of his relics. Additional commemorations are scheduled in Blato at the Monastery of the Daughters of Mercy. These events recognize the Pope’s impact on the Church and his three visits to Croatia in 1994, 1998, and 2003.
