Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming service changes
Overview
Microsoft is testing a new payment model for Xbox Cloud Gaming titled ‘Cloud Playtime.’ This service allows users to purchase specific blocks of streaming hours, such as 10, 25, or 50 hours, without requiring an active Game Pass subscription. These packs are intended to provide an ad-free experience with reduced queue times and high-quality streaming, and the hours do not expire.
This shift coincides with a policy change where Game Pass subscriptions will transition to monthly streaming limits. Under the new structure, Ultimate subscribers receive 15 hours, Premium receive 10 hours, and Essential receive 5 hours per month.
Additionally, Microsoft is testing an ad-supported option through its insider program, which allows users to access 30 minutes of free gameplay in exchange for watching approximately two minutes of advertisements.
