Law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina have conducted several operations targeting various criminal activities. In Tuzla Canton, police executed searches at eight locations as part of an investigation into an attempted murder in the Brčko District, resulting in eight arrests. Concurrently, the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) arrested three individuals in Sarajevo and Kladnje during the ‘Istok Belt’ operation, suspected of organizing migrant smuggling after Afghan minors were discovered in a vehicle. In Republika Srpska, five police officers were arrested during the ‘Terminal’ operation for allegedly abusing their positions by demanding money from drivers for non-existent traffic violations. Additionally, in Transparency International BiH noted that the case highlights “systemic issues regarding institutional control and the perceived lack of meaningful punishment for corruption.” In Sarajevo, the ‘Black Peak’ operation led to the arrest of five individuals following the seizure of weapons, including a grenade and rifles, along with quantities of heroin, marijuana, and cocaine. Additionally, two women were arrested for the theft of gold, electronics, and cash from a Turkish citizen, an incident suspected to be linked to an organized criminal group.
