Details regarding the 2027 professional cycling season have emerged for two major races. Organizers of the Tour de France confirmed a route featuring 71 kilometers of individual time trialing and six mountain stages. Tour director Christian Prudhomme noted that the increased focus on time trials is intended to restore balance among riders. In response to suggestions that the route targets Tadej Pogacar, his agent Alex Carera stated, “Whether these time trials will put him in difficulty or not, we'll see. He's still the man to beat.” Following leaked details, the official route for the 110th edition of the Giro d’Italia was announced. Scheduled for May 8 to May 30, 2027, the race will start in Trieste and end in Rome, covering 3,418.9 kilometers across 21 stages. The course includes stages in Slovenia and significant climbs such as the Gavia, Mortirolo, and Zoncolan. The race will also include a tribute to Michele Scarponi in Filottrano and several stages in Abruzzo, including an individual uphill time trial from Sulmona to Campo di Giove. Specific technical details for the Giro d’Italia reveal a total vertical gain of 50,250 meters, featuring eight summit finishes. To improve rider safety, RCS Sport head Luca Guercilena noted that the race will utilize motor racing circuits, such as the Marco Simoncelli World Circuit in Misano Adriatico, the Mugello Circuit in Tuscany, and the Monza circuit for an individual time trial. Guercilena stated that wider circuit roads offer a less dangerous environment for finishes. Organizers are also considering limiting crowds on certain mountain climbs to ensure safety. The event will also feature three stages in Abruzzo, two a second stage passing from Ljubljana to Koper in Trentino, Slovenia and maintains a partnership with Consorzio DOP Delle Venezie as the official wine.
