The permanent wild card participants for the 2027 Speedway Grand Prix series are being finalized. Polish rider Maciej Janowski was first awarded a permanent wild card following strong performances, including a runner-up finish in the Speedway Euro Championship. His inclusion was noted by former representative Jan Krzystyniak as a form of recognition for Polish speedway. British rider Dan Bewley was subsequently named as the third a wild card, joining Janowski and Jack Holder. Bewley’s selection follows a recovery from a severe injury in May 2026 that involved a broken femur and a vertebral compression fracture. Despite the injury, Bewley returned to competition late in the season, contributing to Sparta Wrocław’s silver medal in the PGE Ekstraliga and a fifth-place finish in the Toruń Grand Prix. However, subsequent reports indicate the Speedway Grand Prix commission has finalized a list of four permanent wild cards: Maciej Janowski, Jack Holder, Daniel Bewley, and Fredrik Lindgren. This announcement has prompted debate, as expert Jan Krzystyniak expressed surprise regarding Bewley’s status in earlier discussions, and questions have been raised over the exclusion of Anders Thomsen. Despite winning the Grand Prix in Malilla and finishing 11th in the season rankings, Thomsen did not receive a wild card. Expert Hans Andersen remarked that while the omission is regrettable, Thomsen had opportunities as a first reserve to secure a higher ranking. The 2027 season is scheduled to run from May 1 in Croatia to October 30 in Australia.
