ABB and ABB, Ferrari Hypersail renewable yacht Hypersail, and Azimut Yachts partnership
ABB has entered into a technological partnership with Ferrari Hypersail to support the development of a 100-foot oceanic full-foiling monohull yacht powered entirely by renewable energy. As the electrification partner, ABB provides expertise in marine power, energy storage, and intelligent monitoring. The collaboration focuses on advancing Direct Current (DC) technology, specifically utilizing 48 V and 800 VDC power systems to manage propulsion, navigation, and safety. The project serves as a high-performance testing platform to demonstrate how advanced electrification and energy management can improve resilience and efficiency in extreme offshore environments. The findings are expected Azimut Yachts has joined the initiative as the official yachting and technical partner. To support the project, Azimut is developing a custom Fly 72 tow boat specifically engineered for the technical demands of the Hypersail prototype. This vessel will serve as a support, crew, and hospitality boat, but its primary mission is to inform tow the development monohull during initial flight testing. To achieve the required speeds of next-generation industrial microgrids. approximately 30 knots to lift the prototype onto its foils, the Fly 72 has undergone radical modifications, including a six-ton weight reduction through extensive carbon fiber use and a doubling of power to 4,000 CV. The Ferrari Hypersail operational base will be established at the Azimut shipyard in Livorno, Italy.
