On September 11, 2026, Nusrat Osman, a 47-year-old British auditor originally from Leicester, was abducted in broad daylight near her home in the Mount Pleasant area of Blantyre, Malawi. Four men in a grey Nissan Dualis reportedly seized her during the incident. The Malawi Police Service launched an investigation and offered a reward of 30 million Malawian kwacha for information leading to her rescue. At the time of the initial report, no ransom demands had been made, and the motive for the abduction remained unknown. The UK Foreign Office confirmed it was coordinating with local authorities. Six days after her disappearance, Osman was rescued during a police operation on September 17 on the outskirts of Blantyre, near Mpemba-Chadzunda. The operation involved an intense exchange of gunfire between officers and suspects armed with a pistol and an AK-47 rifle. While initial reports suggested all four suspects were killed, Inspector General Richard Luhanga later clarified that two suspects died: 43-year-old Mozambican national Marcolino Munguambe and 44-year-old Limbani Anthony of Malawi.
