Reports indicate that Abdullah Öcalan has moved to a newly prepared residence on İmralı Island. This relocation follows a resolution regarding his legal status. Some reports suggest the formation of a ‘Liquidation Commission’ (Tasfiye Komisyonu) operating under the Presidency. This body reportedly evaluates intelligence data to facilitate the dissolution of the PKK, with claims that Öcalan is exercising initiative regarding lists related to the organization’s liquidation. This reported communication has caused confusion among political actors like the DEM Party. Mithat Sancar, a DEM Party Member of Parliament and member of the İmralı Delegation, confirmed the move. Sancar stated that Öcalan’s acceptance of the new location suggests a need to accelerate the peace and democratization process. He noted the process had reached a standstill over the previous two months, with certain scheduled steps failing to materialize. Sancar emphasized that for progress to occur, the state must move away from a rigid stance and that Öcalan’s coordination will be critical. He also called for press access to Öcalan to address public speculation and misinformation. Pervin Buldan, also a member of the DEM Party İmralı Delegation, clarified that while the new location may provide more comfortable and workable conditions, the area remains connected to the prison and does not constitute a change in legal status. Meanwhile, Zafer Party leader Ümit Özdağ has alleged Recent developments confirm that Öcalan has been appointed to a commission, which he argues would end his prisoner status and allow him transferred to reside in a 250-square-meter villa designed as a workspace. There within the İmralı prison complex. This move is currently no confirmed decision regarding such an appointment. Nationalist figures have criticized intended to facilitate negotiations with the accommodations. İlkay Şimşek Turkish government aimed at the disarmament of the True Path Party (DYP) described PKK. However, the facility as a villa that does not align with peace process faces significant hurdles: the standards for a prisoner serving a life sentence. Turkish government requires verified surrender of weapons, while the Kurdish side seeks constitutional guarantees regarding language rights and local autonomy. Nationalist figures continue to criticize the accommodations.
