Wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been reintegrated into the Bengal cricket squad following his release on bail on September 18, 2026. Porel had been in judicial custody for over a month after being arrested in August on allegations involving sexual intercourse on the promise of marriage and blackmail. While Porel has denied all allegations, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) initially included him in a squad for practice matches ahead of the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season, noting that players remain eligible for selection provided no conviction has been recorded. By early October, the CAB announced the official 17-member squad for the opening Ranji Trophy match against Delhi. Delhi, which will be held at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani. Porel remains included in the lineup alongside players such as Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar. A CAB official addressed the controversy surrounding Porel’s selection, stating that his “personal and legal issues are his own and do not currently constitute a barrier to selection unless a formal directive is issued.”
