Bandai Namco has provided progressive details regarding the upcoming flight combat game, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. Initial previews at Gamescom showcased a hands-on demo set in the fictional world of Strangereal during the Sotoa-Usea War of 2029. The gameplay focuses on accessibility and intuitive controls, allowing players to lead ‘Joker Flight’ from the aircraft carrier FCU Endurance. Recent updates have expanded on the ‘Ace Combat Online’ mode, which operates independently from the main campaign with its own progression and customizable mercenary pilot avatars. This mode features a virtual Air Base hub and various gameplay styles, including Co-Op Assault (PvE) and Co-Op Warfare (PvPvE). Brand director Kazutoki Kono has revealed that the title will feature the longest campaign in the series' history, characterized by a high volume of missions and cinematic presentation. To accompany the release, Bandai Namco announced a live-action prequel miniseries titled ‘Hour Zero’. Scheduled to premiere on September 15, 2026, the four-part series stars Josh Holloway, Brandon Routh, and Tamlyn Tomita. The narrative follows a pilot, a doctor, and a news presenter during the invasion of the Republic of Sotoa over the Central Federation of Usea. In a unique storytelling choice, the series will utilize a reverse chronological structure, telling stories backward toward the moment the characters' lives were disrupted by war. The miniseries will stream on IGN and YouTube ahead of the game's launch on October 2, 2026. Deluxe Edition holders will receive early access to the game on September 29, 2026.
