Activities and reflections of the band Rush

Overview

Recent developments regarding the band Rush involve both memorial efforts for the late Neil Peart and reflections on musical influences.

A fundraising campaign for a permanent memorial to drummer Neil Peart has reached its $1 million goal. Band members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson contributed $785,000 following recent performances in Toronto. The funds, sourced from tour VIP packages and Lee’s book tour, will support a project in Lakeside Park, St. Catharines, featuring two life-sized bronze sculptures by Morgan MacDonald. The memorial is slated for completion in late 2027.

Separately, band members have discussed their musical admiration for Steely Dan. In an interview, Geddy Lee described himself as a “huge fan of Steely Dan,” while Alex Lifeson highlighted the versatility of the group’s collaborators. The members noted shared qualities in technical complexity and intellectual themes between the two bands.
