Activities of Liberian President Joseph Boakai

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai continues to balance international diplomacy with pressing domestic priorities. He has traveled to the United States to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly and meet with members of the U.S. Congress to strengthen bilateral relations.

On the domestic front, the administration faces ongoing calls for structural and judicial reforms. The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) continues to challenge the government to secure a “lasting media legacy” by addressing journalists’ welfare and passing the Liberia Media Governance and Sustainability Act. Additionally, civil society organizations are urging the President to expedite legislation establishing War and Economic Crimes and Anti-Corruption courts to facilitate justice and peace.

Economic and political developments also include a national consensus to resolve non-performing loans through a coordinated effort between the government, the Central Bank of Liberia, and financial institutions. Furthermore, Liberia’s democratic resilience was highlighted at the FixPolitics Africa Conference, which noted the nation’s history of peaceful presidential power transfers.
