The Aden Drug Control Department, under the Aden Police and National Security Forces, has initiated a multi-faceted security awareness campaign to combat narcotics and drug abuse among youth. The campaign began with the announcement of a seven-a-side football tournament titled ‘No to Drugs, Yes to Sports’. Sponsored by the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, the tournament involves four local clubs and aims to provide positive community engagement through athletics. Following this, the department expanded its efforts by engaging media professionals and social media influencers. This phase of the initiative seeks to utilize digital platforms to deliver prevention messages regarding the health and social consequences of addiction. The campaign is a collaborative effort involving security forces, the Mazalla Development Foundation, and the Tarabot Shabab Health Team. The football tournament concluded at the Al-Rawdah Sports Club stadium in the Al-Tawahi district, where Al-Minaa SC secured a 1-0 victory over Al-Jalaa SC to win the trophy. During the closing ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Mayas Al-Jadani, Director of the Drug Control Department, warned youth that drug use could lead to “death or imprisonment” and urged cooperation with security authorities to combat trafficking. Authorities have indicated that the anti-drug awareness campaign is ongoing and will expand to include a large sports marathon specifically targeting youth between the ages of 15 and 25.
