Yemen’s Ministry of Transport initiated a program to provide free bus services for University of Aden students to mitigate difficulties caused by a local transportation crisis and fuel shortages. Initially, the Ministry directed authorities to provide free services for one month using five buses across various districts, including Tawahi, Maalla, Crater, Khor Maksar, Sheikh Othman, Mansoura, Al-Buraiqah, and Dar Sad. The Ministry committed to covering all operational costs, such as diesel. Following the launch, the scope of the initiative was clarified to include five primary routes with specific departure times: 7:00 AM from designated assembly points and 2:00 PM from the university campus. While the initial directive mentioned a one-month period, subsequent reports indicate the service is expected to continue through the end of the 2026-2027 academic year. The initiative was formally inaugurated by Minister of Transport Mohsen Haidara al-Omari and Aden University President Dr. Al-Khader Lasour. The project utilizes five buses from the General Corporation for Local Land Transport to alleviate economic and living burdens on students resulting from the reduction of gas-powered bus services in Aden.
