Medical facilities in India, the United States, and Italy are increasingly integrating robotic assistance and CT-guided navigation into orthopedic surgeries. In India, surgeons performed an active robot-assisted surgery using a non-metallic ceramic knee implant to achieve sub-millimetre accuracy. Similarly, in the United States, Mercy Medical Center has implemented Mako SmartRobotics technology for shoulder replacements, using 3D CT scans and haptic technology to create personalized surgical plans. In Italy, San Salvatore Hospital in L'Aquila reported completing 50 prosthetic surgeries for hips, knees, and shoulders during the first half of 2026. Under the direction of Professor Giandomenico Logroscino, the facility utilizes robotic surgery and CT-guided navigation to create prostheses tailored to individual patient anatomy. This technology, which debuted for knee prostheses at the center one year ago, aims to reduce complication risks and has attracted patients from across the country for complex issues. Broadly, robotic-assisted technology has transitioned from an emerging innovation to a significant tool for hip and knee replacements. By converting CT imaging into three-dimensional models, the technology provides surgeons with enhanced information and control to account for unique bone structures and soft-tissue conditions. While data shows substantial growth in robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements between 2017 and 2024—rising from approximately 3,000 to 32,000 combined cases—the market appears to be entering a phase of maturity as rapid hypergrowth levels off due to regulatory, reimbursement, and training requirements. In South Korea, medical institutions are expanding specialized services for artificial joint revision surgery to address an aging population. As initial implants reach the end of their lifespan, hospitals are seeing increased cases of wear, loosening, and infection. Yonsei Sarang Hospital has performed approximately 1,000 joint revision surgeries over the last decade using a multidisciplinary approach.
