AECC cancer research and awareness initiatives in Spain

The Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and other regional organizations continue conducting solidarity initiatives across Spain to fund oncological research and patient services. In Cantabria, the AECC, in collaboration with the local City Council, is organizing the ‘IX March Against Cancer’ on September 5 in Santander. The 8.9 km route begins at the Gamazo esplanade and passes through Magdalena beaches, the Magdalena Palace, Camello, Sardinero, and Mataleñas, concluding at the Cabo Mayor Lighthouse. Participants can choose between walking or a night trail run. The event is supported by boxer Bruno Macho, who serves as godfather due to his personal history of overcoming childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Health Councilor Zulema Gancedo emphasized the city’s commitment to the initiative, which supports research, patient care programs, and awareness campaigns. Other regional efforts include the ‘Vigo en Marcha contra el Cáncer’ event planned for October 18 in Vigo. Organized by the AECC and the Vigo City Council, the event offers a competitive 10K race, a non-competitive 5K run, and a 5K walk to promote healthy lifestyles and psychosocial support. In Badajoz, the XIII Badajoz Against Cancer Solidarity Race, held in tribute to Antonio Pérez, has surpassed 500 registrations. Scheduled for September 13, the event includes a 10-kilometer race, a 5-kilometer walk, and children's races. Over its twelve editions, the initiative has raised more than 54,000 euros for the AECC in Badajoz. Additionally, the Association Unidos Contra el Cáncer de Toro y Provincia de Zamora held its Maratón del Euro in Toro, directing 220,500 euros to research projects. Further fundraising includes a solidarity challenge by acrobat Josué Jaime Brosjaca and the group Planeta Movimiento, aiming to raise 100,000 euros through a 50-day tour across 50 Spanish provinces. In San Esteban de la Sierra, the community held its first solidarity march against cancer.
