AFC Bournemouth has continued its perfect start to the 2026-27 UEFA Europa League league phase, securing a historic 3-0 victory against AC Milan at Vitality Stadium. The win marks three consecutive victories for the club under coach Marco Rose, bringing Bournemouth to nine points and placing them at the top of the standings. The match was defined by early turning points. In the 8th minute, Justin Kluivert converted a penalty following a handball by Koni De Winter. The lead was extended in the 32nd minute when AC Milan goalkeeper and captain Mike Maignan received a red card after striking Tyler Adams in the face during a corner kick. Maignan addressed the dismissal via Instagram, stating his actions were not deliberate but an attempt to ‘create space in his penalty area.’ The dismissal was upheld by VAR, leading to a second penalty converted by Marcus Tavernier. Amine Adli secured the win with an 84th-minute free kick. Following the match, AC Milan issued a formal statement condemning racist abuse directed at Maignan on social media, describing the insults as ‘serious and unacceptable.’ The club expressed full solidarity with the French international, emphasizing that racism and discrimination have no place in football or society. In addition to the dismissal, AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek sustained a knee injury. After being substituted at halftime, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the exit was due to physical issues rather than a tactical decision. The loss leaves Milan in 24th position in the competition, drawing scrutiny toward Amorim’s tactical decisions and heavy squad rotation. Bournemouth’s momentum has since extended into a four-match winning streak across all competitions, including a 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
