The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed a three-match Twenty-20 International (T20I) series to be held in September 2026. While Afghanistan will serve as the official host, the matches are set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi due to geopolitical issues in Afghanistan. The series, scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17, serves as a preparation window for both teams ahead of the 2026 Asian Games and is part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Program. This arrangement marks the first time Afghanistan will officially host India in a bilateral T20I series. BCCI President Mithun Manhas stated that the board remains “committed to supporting the growth of cricket in Afghanistan and providing its players with opportunities to compete at the highest level.” The confirmation of these dates has raised questions regarding the scheduling of India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh, which was originally earmarked for the same period in September. To enhance the viewing experience, the series will utilize advanced broadcast technology inspired by FIFA World Cup 2026 standards. Rights holder ITW Universe plans to implement AI-stabilized point-of-view cameras, Spidercam systems, ultra-motion replays, and volumetric free-viewpoint technology. Additionally, Quidich Innovation Labs will deploy the Spatio system, which combines augmented reality with stabilized drone footage and real-time optical player tracking to visualize tactical strategies and field placements. The production will be directed by Jamie Oakford.
