The qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, continues across 12 groups. In Group E, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has strengthened its position, moving to the top of the group with six points following a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in Harare, featuring goals from Yoane Wissa and Samuel Moutoussamy. Following this win, coach Sébastien Desabre emphasized the team’s goal to remain among Africa’s top five nations. In Group F, Burkina Faso secured its first win of the campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic, led by a 60th-minute goal from substitute Aboubacar Sidiki Camara, placing them temporarily at the top of the group. Senegal, led by Patrick Vieira, gained momentum with a 1-0 victory over Ethiopia in Bahir Dar, courtesy of an 11th-minute goal by Ibrahim Mbaye. While the win puts Senegal in a strong position with four points from two matches, the team’s tactical shift to a three-man defense has drawn mixed reactions from supporters, with local media and players noting a need for improved midfield control. Algeria secured a 2-2 draw against Burundi in Bujumbura. After conceding two early goals, including an own goal in the 5th minute, the team recovered via goals from Bachir Belloumi and a 63rd-minute free kick by Adil Boulbina. Despite the draw, Algeria remains at the top of Group I. Coach Brahim Hemdani noted the team’s ability to recover despite “avoidable errors.” In Group I, Zambia defeated Togo 2-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with goals from Albert Kangwanda and Eliya Mandanji. In Group G, Cameroon maintains its lead after a 3-1 win over Comoros. Recent matchday results have shown significant shifts in momentum.
