The Żagle 2026 sailing festival in Szczecin has brought over 30 sailing vessels to the banks of the Odra River, including the Baltic Beauty, Minerva, ORP Iskra, and the 1933 icebreaker Stettin. The event features public deck tours, river cruises, drone shows, and musical performances at the Main Stage. To manage the scale of the festivities, local authorities have implemented significant traffic changes, closing major streets in the Wały Chrobrego and Łasztownia areas to vehicles. To accommodate the influx of visitors, public transport capacity has been increased with additional trams and buses, and a Park & Ride system has been established at Hangarowa Street. Due to heavy traffic congestion and seasonal travel toward the Baltic coast, police have increased road safety operations. During a single day of monitoring, officers detained seven drivers for operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol, noting some recorded blood alcohol levels near or above 2 promille. As part of the festival, the Bieg Pod Żaglami was held as part of the Biegowe Bulwarove series. This approximately five-kilometer race wound through the city’s waterfronts along the Oder River and featured a unique crossing via a pontoon bridge. The route integrated the city’s port scenery and sailing vessels into the course. A shorter version, known as the Bieg Małego Żeglarza, was also held for younger participants.
