The agribusiness and food retail sectors in Brazil continue to drive significant economic impact. In late September 2026, the 23rd SuperAgos event in Goiás generated over R$ 350 million in business negotiations, exceeding previous records. Regional data shows agribusiness accounted for 40.3% of Goiás's GDP in 2023, while São Paulo recorded an agribusiness surplus of US$ 15.61 billion during the first nine months of 2026, primarily through exports of sugar, meat, soybeans, and forestry products to China, the European Union, and the United States. On a national level, Brazil’s trade balance showed robust growth throughout 2026. Between January and September, the trade surplus reached US$ 62.4 billion, a 34.8% increase over the same period in 2025. By the third week of October 2026, the trade surplus for that week reached US$ 2.661 billion, bringing the accumulated surplus for October to US$ 5.959 billion. Year-to-date, the trade surplus rose to US$ 68.355 billion, a 36.8% increase compared to the previous year. While the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services (MDIC) projects a total annual surplus of US$ 84.4 billion, this is a downward revision from an earlier estimate of US$ 90 billion. To mitigate global commercial and geopolitical volatility, the Brazilian government issued provisional measure MP 397/2026, releasing R$ 6.5 billion in extraordinary credit for the Export Guarantee Fund (FGE). This measure, part of the Plano Brasil Soberano, aims to support exporters and suppliers impacted by international trade tariffs, such as those from the United States, or conflicts like the war in the Persian Gulf. The Ministry of Planning and Budget noted that credit demand through the BNDES has exceeded double the previously authorized 2026 limit of R$ 7 billion. Recent Central Bank data indicates a shift in foreign exchange flows. The funds will be drawn from the FGE's financial surplus and do not count toward the government's fiscal target.
