Agricultural sectors in Romania, Moldova, and Hungary have implemented various financial support measures for livestock farmers. In early October, Romania initiated state aid for cattle and pig sectors in Vaslui County, with national budgets exceeding 54 million euros for cattle and 11.5 million euros for pigs. Simultaneously, Moldova’s Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) approved approximately 11.3 million lei in subsidies. By mid-October, support efforts expanded. Hungary provided 3.7 billion forints in advanced support for pig fattening and breeding sows, marking the first time the ministry offered a six-month advance for animal welfare programs. Specifically, Minister Szabolcs Bóna announced 1.6 billion forints for pig fattening during the third and fourth quarters, and 2.1 billion forints for breeding sows for the second and third quarters. In Romania, the Chamber of Deputies passed legislation allowing pig farmers to access up to 3 million euros in state aid specifically to manage costs related to preventing and controlling African Swine Fever. This program, developed by the RMDSZ, allows eligible companies and family businesses with veterinary permits to seek reimbursement for expenses such as disinfectants, protective equipment, and feed sterilization. In Moldova, AIPA authorized 49.15 million lei from the National Fund for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment for payments between October 12 and 16, 2026. The largest portion, 38.09 million lei, was allocated for complementary payments to stimulate access to investment credits or working capital. An additional 8.35 million lei was authorized for advance payments regarding livestock farm modernization and production on protected land.
