Global enforcement and legislative efforts regarding AI-generated sexual deepfakes are intensifying. In Japan, the National Police Agency reported that 123 cases involving minors were handled in the first half of 2026, more than doubling the 60 cases from the same period in 2025. In Australia, Antonio Rotondo was convicted of 17 offences involving AI-modified images of students and staff. In the United States, Ronald Richardson was convicted in Georgia on 118 counts of sexual exploitation of children. In the United Kingdom, a report by the safeguarding firm Aidos, titled ‘In Plain Sight’, reveals that 49% of headteachers have experienced incidents involving the misuse or manipulation of pupil images. Criminal gangs are reportedly scraping photos from school websites and social media to create hyper-realistic deepfakes, using them to target school leaders and trustees with ransom demands. Experts warn that administrators may handle these incidents privately to protect institutional reputations. Data from the Internet Watch Foundation supports this rising trend, noting that AI-generated video cases of child sexual abuse material jumped from 13 in 2024 to 3,443 in 2025. Recent law enforcement actions in the United States and India highlight the ongoing issue. In Florida, Peter Solomon Ruma was arrested by the Vero Beach Police Department for allegedly using social media photographs to create and promote altered sexual depictions of women. He faces charges including sexual cyberharassment and stalking. In New Delhi, Keshav Bansal was arrested by the Cyber Police Station for allegedly using AI tools to morph photographs of a former college acquaintance, circulating the content via anonymous Instagram accounts and Discord servers. In Argentina, a study by the Instituto de Diálogo Estratégico (ISD) highlights a proliferation of non-consensual AI-generated pornographic deepfakes, particularly among adolescents.
