Major airlines are expanding or resuming services to and from Venezuela as part of strategic efforts to secure airport slots and prepare for anticipated market recovery. LATAM Airlines has explored establishing LATAM Venezuela to increase regional connectivity through domestic routes such as Caracas-Maracaibo and Caracas-Porlamar. The airline has announced it will resume direct flights between Santiago, Chile, and Caracas on January 3, 2027, operating four weekly frequencies using Airbus A320neo aircraft. Juan José Tohá, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at LATAM Airlines Group, stated the expansion aims to “strengthen Venezuela’s connectivity with major South American hubs.” American Airlines is also increasing its presence. The carrier has announced it will launch non-stop flights between Miami International Airport and Barcelona, Venezuela, starting January 15, 2027. Operating three weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays using Embraer 175 aircraft, this new route aims to connect eastern Venezuela’s commercial and industrial centers to over 100 North American destinations via Miami. This expansion brings the airline’s total to 24 weekly frequencies in the country. Additionally, the airline will add a second daily frequency on its Miami-Caracas route starting October 15. Other carriers are also scaling operations. Turkish Airlines has resumed direct commercial operations between Istanbul and Caracas with four weekly flights. Caribbean Airlines will resume services between Trinidad and Tobago and Caracas on October 31, 2026. Laser Airlines is set to restore regular passenger service between Caracas and Aruba starting December 3, marking the return of scheduled commercial flights on the route since 2019. while Estelar Airlines has formalized a weekly direct connection between Valencia and Madrid. Copa Airlines is also scaling up operations from its Panama hub, expecting to reach 48 weekly flights to Venezuela by December. However, the aviation sector is seeing a divergent trend. While international connectivity is rising, domestic flights saw a 32.5% decrease between May and October, falling from 535 to 361 weekly operations due to fleet restrictions and contingency conditions. Currently, 19 airlines are active in the country, comprising eight national and 11 international carriers.
