Airlines are increasingly adopting Starlink satellite technology to provide high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity. United Airlines has initiated a rollout of Starlink services on its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner fleet, following previous installations on Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The carrier intends to equip nearly 1,000 aircraft by the end of the year, with a broader goal of covering its entire widebody fleet by summer 2027. Aer Lingus has completed the rollout of free Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire narrow-body transatlantic fleet, covering 14 Airbus A321LR and A321XLR aircraft. This enables streaming-grade internet on more than 10 North American routes, and the airline expects to have the service available on all transatlantic aircraft, including widebody A330s, by the end of 2026. American Airlines is reportedly considering expanding its Starlink implementation beyond its initial commitment to the Airbus A320-family. While the airline previously planned to introduce the service to over 500 A320-family aircraft starting in 2027, reports suggest it may extend the rollout to its entire mainline fleet, including Boeing 737, 777, and 787 aircraft. In Vietjet has entered a strategic partnership signed in New York, Vietjet, Galaxy Telecom, and with SpaceX to integrate Starlink have agreed services across its entire fleet, aiming to bring provide continuous, high-speed satellite internet to connectivity. The initial deployment phase will focus on 120 Vietjet aircraft, including 100 narrow-body Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 models, and 20 wide-body Airbus A330 aircraft. Under this model, SpaceX provides the satellite infrastructure, In a departure from traditional models, Vietjet provides the aviation platform, and Galaxy Telecom—operating the SkyFi brand—acts as the solution integrator managing the technical plans to offer these Wi-Fi telecommunications infrastructure. services “completely free of charge” to passengers on all domestic and international flights.
