Ajax has seen significant contributions from young talent during their recent European competition campaigns. In July, sixteen-year-old midfielder Mohamed Abdalla became the youngest player to score for a Dutch club in a European match after netting in a 4-1 victory against FK Vojvodina. By August, seventeen-year-old Moroccan midfielder Abdellah Ouazane also made an impact during the Conference League playoffs. Ouazane provided a crucial assist in a 4-2 win against FC Sion. Despite reported interest from major clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG, Ouazane has extended his contract with Ajax until 2028. Following the Conference League playoff, Ouazane’s influence grew as he provided two assists during a 5-3 victory over FC Sion, which secured Ajax qualification for the tournament's main stage. Former Dutch international Rafael van der Vaart praised the midfielder as an ‘exceptional’ talent, noting his movement and spatial awareness. Ouazane has officially confirmed his intention to represent Morocco at the international level. Having previously played for Morocco's U-15 and U-17 squads—including winning the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 as the tournament's best player—he expressed a desire to join the senior ‘Atlas Lions’. Moroccan national team coach Mohamed Wahbi was reportedly in attendance during his recent performance at the Johan Cruijff ArenA to observe the player firsthand. Recently, Ouazane shared his professional ambitions, stating he aims to reach the level of teammate Julian Brandt if given sufficient time and space to develop. He described himself as a creative player focused on dribbling and passing, and is currently working with Ajax’s performance department to improve his physical strength. He also noted that he wears the number 68 as a tribute to Abdelhak Nouri, explaining that 68 is twice Nouri’s number, 34.
