Olympique Marseille continues its roster overhaul to meet DNCG and UEFA financial requirements, specifically aiming to reduce its annual wage bill below €100 million. Following a net loss of 104.8 million euros in the 2025-2026 period, the DNCG has imposed restrictions on transfer allowances and wages. As the summer 2026 window progressed, the club completed the market with zero new signings to prioritize balancing accounts. While President Stéphane Richard confirmed a 30% to 35% reduction in the wage bill, financial objectives have not yet been fully met. On the pitch, manager Bruno Genesio faces significant tactical and injury challenges. The team’s defensive vulnerabilities were highlighted during a 4-1 Europa League defeat against Besiktas. Following a 2-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Marseille entered a crisis, sitting 17th in Ligue 1. The fallout from that match includes a one-match suspension for Timothy Weah. As the club prepares for its match against Troyes, Genesio faces further selection hurdles due to the suspension of Weah and an injury to Pierre-Emile Højbjerg. However, there is some relief in midfield as Tochukwu Nnadi has reportedly recovered from his meniscus injury and returned to collective training without pain. Himad Abdelli has also resumed training following an ankle issue. The expected lineup for the Troyes fixture may include Jeffrey de Lange in goal, with Neal Maupay favored for the central striker role. Regarding squad management, central defender Bamo Meïté faces an uncertain future. Former striker Bakari Koné has advised Meïté to seek a loan or transfer by the winter break to ensure development and provide liquidity. Conversely, the club has secured long-term talent by extending Alexi Koum’s contract until June 2029. Additionally, the Massilia Socios Club has launched a petition with over 4,000 signatures to implement a socios system to grant supporters a voice in governance.
