The 2026 IndyCar season continues to be defined by Alex Palou’s dominance. Following a strong season that included a record-breaking pole streak and a victory at the Music City Grand Prix, Palou secured his sixth win of the season at the Portland Grand Prix. Despite Felix Rosenqvist starting from the pole for Meyer Shank Racing, Palou utilized a decisive ‘overcut’ pit strategy on lap 32 to overtake Rosenqvist and lead 60 of the 110 laps. Palou won the race with a margin of 4.1167 seconds, marking his 25th career victory. Rosenqvist finished second, while Will Power of Andretti Global completed the podium in third. Other top finishers included Rinus VeeKay in fourth and Kyle Kirkwood in fifth. Pato O’Ward recovered from a difficult weekend to finish 11th. This victory has significantly bolstered Palou's championship standing with five races remaining. He now holds a 110-point lead over Kyle Kirkwood and a 118-point lead over David Malukas. Malukas, moving him closer to a potential fourth consecutive IndyCar Series title. Following the race, Rosenqvist and Power expressed frustration regarding the handling of lapped cars, suggesting that current regulations allow lapped vehicles to impede leaders in a way that feels “outdated.” In contrast, Palou indicated he saw no reason to alter current regulations. Driver movements remain a major focus for the 2027 landscape, with Scott Dixon set to depart Chip Ganassi Racing after 24 years and Felix Rosenqvist expected to leave Meyer Shank Racing. Both drivers have been strongly linked to Arrow McLaren.
