Following a successful featherweight title defense at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, where Alexander Volkanovski secured a second-round TKO victory over Movsar Evloev, the champion has renewed his interest in a ‘super fight’ against lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. ~~Volkanovski~~ Volkanovski, 38, has expressed a willingness to retire immediately following a bout with Gaethje, regardless of the result, to ensure the 155-pound division is not stalled by his presence. He previously described the potential matchup as a ‘fairytale super fight’ that would allow both champions to exit the sport while enabling their respective divisions to move forward. While acknowledging Arman Tsarukyan’s status as a number one contender, Volkanovski suggested a retirement clause would allow both the 145-pound and 155-pound divisions to progress. UFC CEO Dana White has indicated support for the veteran fighter, noting that Volkanovski’s career accomplishments make it difficult to deny his requests. While the potential matchup remains under discussion, no official agreement has been reached regarding a date, venue, or opponent, and Justin Gaethje has not yet publicly responded to the proposal. Betting markets currently list Volkanovski as a +157 underdog against Gaethje, who is the favorite at -180.
