Maritime transport services between Algeria and Europe are undergoing operational changes and seasonal transitions. Initially, the Spanish company Baleària introduced specific rules and services to facilitate the export of vehicles from Spain to Algeria, offering routes from Valencia to Mostaganem and Almería to Ghazaouet, alongside administrative assistance for customs formalities. By late August, the sector faced a mix of service disruptions and seasonal planning. While Algérie Ferries encountered significant passenger criticism due to delays of up to 24 hours and the removal of cabins on the Algiers–Marseille route, other operators moved toward winter scheduling. Baleària opened bookings for the 2026/2027 winter season, planning up to five weekly departures connecting Spain to Algiers, Oran, and Mostaganem. Other companies, including Corsica Linea and Nouris Elbahr Ferries, also commenced winter reservations. In September 2026, Baleària announced an expansion of its vehicle export services. Effective September 16, 2026, the company will extend these services to all its maritime lines serving Algeria, including routes from Barcelona and Valencia to Algiers, Valencia to Oran, and Almería to Oran and Ghazaouet. This expansion aims to provide passengers access to a broader range of Algerian ports for vehicle exports. Additionally, seasonal restrictions were implemented by the Algerian Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport. From June 15 to September 15, 2026, the entry of vehicles less than three years old was prohibited at the ports of Algiers and Oran, and the boarding of utility vehicles was banned at all Algerian ports.
